Lately I was reminded of a special day in the life of our little family. It was back in 2006 when our daughter was 8 months old. Her godmother had a special treat for her - and we got to share some exceptional moments.
There is a big zoo not too far away from us and we go there at least once every year, having a child and me being a biologist and a teacher and my husband being an amateur photographer and all that. We really have enough excuses to go to the zoo every now and then. But this time there was more to it.
Our daughter's godmother knows the woman who is in charge of the giraffes. Who agreed to give us a "behind the scenes"-tour. Yeah!! We were able to actually touch these beautiful animals and feed them. We were told which plants we were allowed to feed the giraffes. See for yourselves:
Are you aware that giraffes have 50 cm (20 in) long
blue tongues to grasp foliage with? They can also see in color,
hear and smell very well and they can close their nostrils.
Thank you, A., for this wonderful day. We will remember it FOREVER!!!
