Laundry Room (again) - VORHER / BEFORE

Man könnte meinen, der Hauswirtschaftsraum ist irgendwie kein richtiges Zimmer ... bei uns stehen da die Waschmaschine, der Wäschetrockner (auf der Waschmaschine), wir haben ein Waschbecken (sogar mit Warmwasser), die ganze Heizungsanlage und was an Anschlüssen so ins Haus führt... also der ganze technische Kram. Bisher haben wir diesen Raum auch sehr vernachlässigt. Es herrscht das Chaos, es ist ein Abstellraum. Da der Raum auch von der Garage her der erste Raum ist, den man im Haus betritt (und wir kommen oft durch die Garage rein) , lagern wir dort auch Schuhe und Jacken. Und weil er an die Küche angrenzt, befinden sich dort auch Dinge wie Einmachgläser und Tupperware. Und natürlich wegen der Waschecke auch Reinigungsmittel. Das ist insgesamt nicht schlecht so, aber es muss unbedingt etwas mehr Ordnung einziehen. Daher hatte ich mir ja schon mal Gedanken darüber gemacht, was ich dort unternehmen könnte, um die Sachen ordentlich zu verstauen, und ein Moodboard erstellt. Wie immer - etwas Zeit ist verstrichen und ich habe es gelegentlich angeschaut. Die Tapete gibt es nicht mehr und ich habe hier und da gestöbert und weitere Anregungen einfließen lassen. Der letzte Stand der Dinge sieht so aus:

You could think of the laundry room as "not a real room" - and in our house, the laundry/mud room is in a chaotic state. We use it to store jackets and shoes (as it is the first room you enter through the garage), then there is the washing machine and the dryer, a sink, cleaning utensils and washing detergents, and as it is adjacent to the kitchen, it is also where we keep things like preserving jars and tupperware. I thought about how I can improve this room and gain some storage space. This was my first attempt a few weeks ago, but I have changed my mind about a few points. This is what I've come up with now:

Die Hauptfarbe in der "Waschecke" wird also der blaue Ton (Schöner wohnen, Trendfarbe Laguna) und ansonsten wird es recht schlicht, mit elfenbeinfarbenen Schränken (Ikea Faktum Stat), dunkler Arbeitsplatte und einem Keramikwaschbecken (Ikea Domsjö). Ich hoffe, ich kriege so schöne Wäschekörbe, denn ich möchte keine mehr in Plastik nachkaufen. Und ein paar Akzente würde ich dann in gelb machen: ich habe eine schöne gelb-gemusterte Tapete gesehen, die ich als Hintergrund in die Schränke machen könnte, dann eine gelbe Lampe im Stil einer "Scheunenlampe" und ein paar gelbe Türgriffe für die Küchenschränke (gesehen bei Anthropologie). Dann werde ich noch sehen, dass ich Regale in der Waschecke anbringe, um Platz für Wasch- und Putzmittel und sowas zu gewinnen. Der Rest des Raumes soll schlichter werden, damit man von der Farbe nicht völlig umgehauen wird in dem winzigen Räumchen.

The main color in the "laundry corner" of the room is going to be this "laguna blue" paint (Schöner Wohnen, Trendfarbe Laguna), while I plan to keep the furniture quite plain (white Ikea Faktum Stat cabinets). I hope I can find some wicker laundry baskets instead of the plastic ones I am currently using. Then I want to put some of the yellow wallpaper into the back of the cabinets and add a yellow lamp (barn lamp style) and yellow handles to the cabinets (seen at Anthropologie). I want to add some extra shelves on the wall to gain space for the washing detergents, clothes pegs and all that stuff, and keep the rest of the room plain so that there's not too much of this bold color.

Der Trockner steht auf der Waschmaschine, weil ich in dem Raum unbedingt ein Waschbecken haben wollte und wir in dem Raum zwei Türen haben. Links führt eine Tür in die Diele, rechts in die Garage. Ich finde es okay die Maschinen zu stapeln, das hatten wir in der vorigen Wohnung auch so.

As I definitely wanted a sink in this room, we had to stack the machines. Which is okay, I had that in the place where we lived before, too.

Letztes Jahr wollte ich die Wände orange streichen... als ich sah, wie schrecklich die Farbe an der Wand aussah, habe ich aufgehört, und so ist es jetzt noch.

Some time last year I thought I wanted to paint the walls orange - then noticed how awful it turned out and stopped painting. So that's still the status quo.

This is the door on the left that leads to the entryway.

Dieses Regal hing früher bei uns im Bad, und da es im neuen Haus nicht mehr woanders gebraucht wurde, hängt es jetzt im HWR. Wir haben dort unsere Putzmittel und das Bügeleisen. Wie man sieht, platzt es aus allen Nähten. 

This is a shelf that we had in our old bathroom, and as we did not have any use for it anywhere in the new house, it went to the laundry area and holds a lot of cleansing agents and the iron (which I avoid using whenever possible). ;)

Waschmittel, Weichspüler und Trocknertücher und was man so bei der Waschmaschine braucht, steht griffbereit obendrauf. Hier sieht man auch, dass die Decke noch unbehandelt ist - der rohe Beton. Sicher schluckt der im Moment auch noch eine ganze Menge Licht. 

And here are my washing detergents, softener, dryer sheets and what I need for the washing machine and dryer. You can see the ceiling is still untreated concrete which probably absorbs a lot of the light in that room.

Das Fenster liegt an der Wand schräg gegenüber der Waschmaschine (hier sieht man das Heizgerät). Das einzige, was ich bisher in dem Raum getan habe, war das Anbringen von Rollos, damit wir uns vor neugierigen Blicken schützen. (Obwohl davor unsere Einfahrt ist und niemand Fremdes da herumläuft, aber man fühlt sich einfach irgendwie besser, wenn man das Fenster zuziehen kann.)

There is a window in this room, catty-cornered from the washing machine. You can also see the heating installation. The only thing that I've done in this room is hang stores for a little privacy - although our own driveway is in front of the window and nobody should be walking around there except members of our family, but it just feels better if you can shield the window. 

So sieht es also aus - es kann nur besser werden Sicher wird es nicht von heute auf morgen in einem Rutsch erledigt werden, aber man muss eben sein Ziel im Auge behalten und Schritt für Schritt etwas verändern. Es soll ja nicht nur ein zweckmäßiger Raum sein, sondern bitteschön zweckmäßig UND schön!

So that is my starting point. Of course I will not be able to change this all at once, but gradually. I want this room to become not only functional, but also pretty. ;)
